Giving Advice
Someone describes a problem. Pick one clear recommendation and back it with reasons instead of listing options.
CELPIP Speaking practice questions on PrepAmigo run across all eight official tasks, from giving advice through to describing an unusual situation. The section runs 20 minutes in total and is scored from 1 to 12. Every set on this page opens a prompt, gives you preparation time and then records your answer in the browser — which is the step most people skip when they practise, and the one that decides how the real thing feels.

The CELPIP Speaking test has 8 official tasks; PrepAmigo organises them into 7 practice sets because Task 3 and Task 4 share the same image prompt. That is why the table below has seven rows rather than eight: the Describing a Scene set covers both, since describing the picture and predicting what happens next are answered against the same image, and pulling them apart makes each one harder than it needs to be. Every other row maps one to one onto an official task.
The counts come from the live library and are worth reading before you plan anything. Preparation and answering windows differ by task — Task 1 gives 30 seconds to prepare and 90 seconds to speak, Task 2 gives 30 seconds and 60 — so a session on one task is not interchangeable with a session on another even when the number of sets looks similar. The difficulty split on the right applies across all seven sets.
| Task | What it covers | Practice sets |
|---|---|---|
| Task 1 | Giving Advice | 200 |
| Task 2 | Talking about a Personal Experience | 200 |
| Task 3 + Task 4 | Describing a Scene | 169 |
| Task 5 | Comparing and Persuading | 188 |
| Task 6 | Dealing with a Difficult Situation | 201 |
| Task 7 | Expressing Opinions | 200 |
| Task 8 | Describing an Unusual Situation | 113 |
| All speaking sets | 1271 | |
Every published speaking set, counted by the level it is filed under.
Answering in your head is not practice. The recorder is the entire point: it is the only way to discover that you spent forty seconds on the setup, or that you pause for two seconds before every sentence. Nobody enjoys the first playback.
Where a task gives 30 seconds to prepare, take 30 — not three minutes. The skill being trained is deciding fast and committing to the decision; a long planning session trains something you will not be allowed to do.
Stopping ten seconds early leaves an obvious gap. If you routinely run dry before the end, the problem is usually the plan rather than the vocabulary: take one concrete example and describe it properly instead of listing three.
The seven sets ask for genuinely different things — advice, a story, a description and a prediction, an argument, a difficult conversation, an opinion. Rotating inside a single session hides which one you are weakest at; the table above and the per-task pages make it easy to stay put.
The split on this page shows how much material sits at each level. Start where you can finish an answer comfortably, and move up once the timer has stopped being the thing you are fighting.
If your answers wander, a template is the fastest available fix, and there are worked ones in our CELPIP Speaking templates and sample answers.
Because Task 3 and Task 4 are built on the same image: one asks you to describe the scene, the other to say what happens next in it. PrepAmigo keeps them in a single set so that both are answered against the same picture. The official numbering is untouched, and the page for that set covers Task 3 and Task 4 explicitly.
Yes, and the browser needs permission to use it. Any built-in laptop or phone microphone is adequate — what is being judged is your answer, not your audio quality. Test it once before your first timed session so that the first thing you meet is not a permissions dialog.
It varies by task. Task 1 gives 30 seconds of preparation and 90 seconds of speaking; Task 2 gives 30 seconds and 60. Each practice set runs a preparation timer followed by a recording timer, so pacing is rehearsed alongside the content rather than after it.
An automatic score together with written feedback on the answer you recorded. That is what makes a second attempt at the same prompt worth doing: you know what to change before you press record again.
Only if you have no idea where you stand. Once you do, order matters far less than repetition — take the task you avoid, work through its page for a block of sessions, and use the counts here to check you have not quietly abandoned the other six.
Yes, and it is usually the better use of a session. Speaking improves through repetition of one prompt more than through breadth: record, listen, note the single thing you would change, record again. Nothing about a set is consumed by attempting it.
